Today is deepavali we are celebrating the festival of lights but there is also another past that is said to be the reason for celebrating deepavali i.e., the death of Naragasuran. When I was a kid my mom used to tell me.. even if it is your enemy, you shouldn't wish harmness to engulf the person. This is the common thing that she almost repeats everytime. For her even my enemy should live good. When I argue she says afterall no problem is so big that it cannot be solved and what you think bad mayn't seem evil to another person.
When I rewind those things I think we aren't supposed to celebrate deepavali. Even on this day I recieve text messages saying why dont the fireworks seller sell AK47 so that we can shoot Pakistan. Why do we even consider them as our enemy. Simple when it comes to politics or protecting the nation everything becomes the realist perspective where all the humans are by nature selfish.
Are we not sad after shedding the blood of Indians and Pakistanis to an extent that even the Himalayan ranges are bloodshed. See how much hatred we share on naragasuran that we kill him and we even celebrate his death just because he was evil and he told to celebrate his death. On the day of his death we create harm to a majority of the people but bursting crackers. Crackers create sound and noise pollution.
Another notion, Deepavali is celebrated on a no moon day and they prepare food and serve them to the crow, believing crows to be our ancestors. Today since everybody started bursting crackers early in the morning not even a single crow was there. It was like we are chasing the crow out of our place and celebrating the festival by remembering our ancestors, who come and bless us in the form of crows. Not even a single person is concerned of the environment and the safety of other living beings. The rockets they burst create fire and burn the kutcha houses in the slums.
after these realisations Deepavali never seems to be an festival for me and atleast for others if they still want to celebrate they can celebrate a green diwali by planting trees.
